Neil Young, ‘Chrome Dreams II’ (Partial CD) [MySpace.com]
One listen to ‘Spirit Road’ a track off of Neil Young‘s new album Chrome Dreams II and you will be reminded why he’s one of the greatest rockers of all time. Its rockin’. Its soulful. It reminds us that we’re all human and a part of our own collective time and place. Young is like a six-string Socrates spreading wisdom through song. For proof, witness these lyrics from ‘Spirit Road’: “Now you’re on that long highway in your mind / The spirit road that you had to find / You’re headed home to peace again / Where you belong my love lost friend.” So far best guesses attribute Chrome Dreams II to being the second coming of an unreleased album titled Chrome Dreams from 1977. Young mixes in a few songs from the vault such as “Ordinary People” on this new album of mostly new material. This may not his most important work, but it sure does feel like the vintage rock n’ roll we’ve come to know and love from Neil Young. File under: Rock
