Steve Earle, ‘Washington Square Serenade’ (Partial CD)

album cover There’s plenty of new music to listen to this week, but the one that’s got me amped is the new Steve Earle record, Washington Square Serenade. Influenced by recent life changes including his marriage to fellow musician Allison Moorer and a residential move to New York City the new album takes an apolitical approach to songwriting as opposed to his strongly political previous two records. Now living in close proximity to the famed location of Dylan’s The Freewheelin’ album cover Earle is clearly enjoying a change of scenery and channeling folk revivalism of the late 60s and early 70s. Got Bettye LaVette’s SCENE OF THE CRIME. She’s the singer of the year — this was worth the wait.

  2. Ryan Says:

I had never heard of Steve Earle until today when I read this post. I wish somebody had introduced me to his music before… I love the 70’s style sound he has.

This is actually the second artist originally from the 80’s that has some how managed to go under my radar. Last month I was also introduced to the Traveling Wilburys and it gets me thinking how much amazing music have I missed out on over the years.

  3. Tom Says:

From what I’ve been able to catch so far, the Betty LaVette album is really promising. Of course, it has to be with the Drive-by Truckers involved. Thanks for the tip, Reginald.

Ryan, you haven’t heard of Steve Earle before? Well my friend, there’s no turning back. Its all good from here on out.
