Alexis P. Suter Band – Just Stay High

Thursday, June 05, 2025 By Bill Wilcox

Alexis P. Suter is a living embodiment of the Blues. She is a powerful voiced force, and her new album, Just Stay High, shows why she is among the leading vocalists on the Blues scene today – an heiress, along with Mavis Staples, Shemekia Copeland, Nora Jean Wallace and a select few others, to the great musical legacy of the explosive Koko Taylor.

Born in Brooklyn, Suter and her band have released a number of critically acclaimed albums, and Just Stay High may be among the best. She is no shrinking violet. There are some great songs on the album, including the powerful opener, “God Gave Me the Blues,” the earnest “Some People,” her George Floyd salute, “I Can’t Breathe” (you can check out a live rendition below), the reflective “My Only Need,” the gospel tinged “It Ain’t Easy,” and the title track. Throughout, Suter’s powerful voice dominates every aspect of this mesmerizing album.
