Tell us about your tour vehicle.

Whatever Enterprise gives us. Still saving for our own wheels.

How do you eat cheaply and/or healthy while on tour?

Chipotle all the time, forever and ever.

How many strings do you break in a typical year? How much does it cost to replace them?

I’m using flat wounds and they go forever.

Where do you rehearse?

My living room for now. Luckily we have space and kind housemates!

What was the title and a sample lyric from the first song that you wrote?

After The Thaw – “In the heart of the snowglobe we’ll build our new home”

Describe your first gig.

The first gig with DUG was outside the Burger King on Grafton Street. We got a cheap PA, a car battery and a hand truck and just set up and went. That’s how this all began.

What was your last day job? What was your favorite day job?

Construction. I did that for 8 years or so.

Selling merch for The Scratch. That was an awesome time.

How has your music-related income changed over the past 5-10 years? What do you expect it to look like 5-10 years from now?

We are still broke.

DUG is a Dublin-based folk duo formed in late 2023 by Irish songwriter Lorkin O’Reilly and California-born multi-instrumentalist Jonny Pickett. Drawing on Irish traditional and American old-time influences, their music blends banjo, resonator guitar, and rich vocal harmonies into a sound rooted in transatlantic folk traditions. O’Reilly, who spent nearly a decade in upstate New York before returning to Ireland in 2022, brings a storyteller’s sensibility shaped by his solo records Heaven Depends and Marriage Material. Pickett, active in Dublin’s folk and bluegrass circles, complements O’Reilly’s songwriting with arrangements steeped in old-world nuance.

Have At It!, their debut album, was released on 19 September 2025. Connect with them online and on the road.
