Tell us about your tour vehicle.
My last solo touring vehicle was a Nissan Xtera, 230k miles.
How do you eat cheaply and/or healthy while on tour?
Water is a must. Power bars will do in a pinch – but nothing keeps you healthy like fresh fruit for the peeling (oranges & bananas) plus righteous coffee! I have always avoided evil fast food on the road – it kills your energy. One beer for soundcheck, one tequila at set break, one beer at last call – kinda my tour diet closer. 🙂
How many strings do you break in a typical year? How much does it cost to replace them?
I really don’t break many strings – I don’t play with a pick which helps.
Where do you rehearse?
I rehearse anywhere I can find – I don’t have a legit space anymore.
What was the title and a sample lyric from the first song that you wrote?
“PB & J”
Peanut butter & jelly – that’s what I like in my belly.
Describe your first gig.
It was a talent show in the 7th grade and my band played Clash & Stray Cats. We did NOT win lol.
What was your last day job? What was your favorite day job?
Fatherhood – the best “job” ever.
How has your music-related income changed over the past 5-10 years? What do you expect it to look like 5-10 years from now?
Well, I do much more studio stuff now & it has actually improved quite a bit from sluggin’ it out in bars.
What one thing do you know now that you had wished you knew when you started your career in music?
Umm how to use a computer? I was pretty tuned into the times of the late 80s early 90s regarding tech & promo, meaning – I made & put up thousands of fliers myself. And I had a huge monthly postcard mailout for shows. I would be lost if I were just starting in today’s Orwellian promo environment.
