As one might imagine (and some actually know), I see a lot of shows. And by that I mean a lot. In that realm there are some artists who I get to see a lot. Then there are others who, unfortunately for various reasons, I don’t get to see often enough. Austin Lucas fits in the latter category.
Both on record and on stage Lucas commands attention with the combined force of his songs and his voice. He’ll silence the room one minute and then instigate a rousing sing-along the next. It’s something to behold.
Lucas is currently on a US tour with his band the Bold Party and, fortunately for me, will be passing through Dallas next Monday. You better believe that I’ll be there.
Joining him on the bill is Garrett Owen, one of DFW’s finest emerging talents. Owen brings a somewhat more restrained – but no less potent -intensity to his songs and performances compared to Lucas. Owen appearing with Lucas has all the makings for a potent evening of music.
Here are two favorite songs, one from each artist. First up is “Alone in Memphis”, a Lucas classic. Watch to the end for a magical audience participation moment. Next is Owen’s exquisite “Mama Cries”, complete with some spine-tingling harmonies.
And if you’re in Dallas – come join, won’t you? Details here.
