MEET THE ARTISTS
Spirited and hopeful, Brooklyn based songwriter Robert Cody Maxwell’s songs channel the vigor and vision of early heartland rock. Unadorned lyricism and driving guitar arrangements make for a live show that occasionally borders on theatre, pivoting between intimate, folksy confessionals and ballsy rock and roll with clear nods to 1970’s New Jersey. There’s a tenacity that runs through the songs, and Maxwell’s stark, brassy delivery reflects a resolve that feels hard-won.
In addition to his own songs, Maxwell is collaborator and bandmate to Los Angeles-based Silas Nello and Nashville’s Bobby Kitchens, having contributed instrumental work to both Nello’s “Easy Listening for Uneasy People,” (2018) and Kitchen’s “The Best Things” (2020).
Brooklyn artist John Brodeur conceived Bird Streets as his return to a band format after a lengthy stint as a solo artist. The new point of view proved to be artistically freeing, moving Brodeur to officially adopt the moniker as his nom de guerre with the release of a self-titled 2018 LP, produced by indie-pop hero Jason Falkner.
For Lagoon, his second album under the Bird Streets name, Brodeur widely expanded on the project’s collaborative foundation, enlisting production by Pat Sansone (Wilco) and Michael Lockwood (Fiona Apple), plus guest appearances from Ed Harcourt, Aimee Mann, John Davis (Superdrag), and Big Star’s Jody Stephens.
Brodeur reunited with Falkner for 2025’s The Escape Artist, an “apocalyptic pop” album born of the pandemic that shifts from claustrophobic folk to dark power-pop to psychedelic-tinged indie from song to song. At its center is “Run For Our Lives,” a pop confection that captures the record’s blend of isolation, anxiety, and hard-won confidence.
Brandon Callies is a Texas-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who blends roots-rock grit, Americana storytelling, and late-1960s power-pop shimmer. Cutting his teeth in Dallas before settling in Austin, Callies fronts the Brandon Callies Band and Deadwind Howler alongside a distinct solo career. His solo album, Sunrise Diner, showcases his melodic range—a raw power-pop chronicle of romantic breakdown that pairs heartbreak and closure with shimmering guitar hooks and plaintive piano ballads.
Parallel to his music, Callies is an illustrator and graphic artist whose visual work grew out of designing his own show flyers and album packaging. Today, he creates custom concert posters, vinyl artwork, and visual branding for independent labels, venues, and businesses throughout Texas. Drawing on bold line work and vintage aesthetics, he is just as adept behind a drafting table as he is behind a microphone.
