Twangville x Dial Back Sound: Live in Boston & NYC

Tuesday, September 15, 2026 By Mayer Danzig

While not often discussed, the choice of recording studio has a profound impact on a record. Great music rarely comes from sterile, assembly-line spaces—it comes from studios with character and warmth, filled with vintage gear and musical mojo in the walls.

That mindset is at the heart of Dial Back Sound, located in the quiet artist haven of Water Valley, Mississippi (just south of Oxford). The studio pairs vintage analog gear and warm acoustics with fully equipped digital setups, offering musicians an ideal space to unplug and focus on making timeless records.

Owned and operated by Drive-By Truckers bassist Matt Patton, Dial Back Sound has grown into both a creative sanctuary and an active label catalyst. Dive deeper into Patton’s stewardship and the story behind the studio in our interview with him.

We are thrilled to team up with Dial Back Sound for special showcase nights in Boston and New York City. The shows will feature a sampling of the great artists who have recorded there.

MEET THE ARTISTS

Drunken Prayer
Morgan Geer learned his trade in Asheville’s backyard jams and garage-punk scene before launching Drunken Prayer in Portland. Decades in, the project remains a cornerstone of raw, restless American roots music. For these dates, Geer will be backed by a powerhouse rhythm section featuring Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers) on bass and Claude Coleman Jr. (Ween) on drums.

Wiley Gaby
Raised in northern Florida and based in Brooklyn, Wiley Gaby writes songs that sit right at the crossroads of rural roots and city life. His sweeping voice and sharp storytelling anchor his upcoming debut solo release on Dial Back Sound, produced by Matt Patton.

Matt York (Boston only)
A staple of the Massachusetts music scene, Matt York has earned back-to-back Boston Music Awards nominations for Best Country Artist. Drawing on decades of touring and critically acclaimed releases like Gently Used, York delivers pure, no-nonsense songwriting.

Pete Mancini (NYC only)
New York City’s Pete Mancini has built a reputation for clear-eyed, melodic Americana. He tracked his two most recent albums, American Equator and Killing the Old Ways at Dial Back Sound alongside Patton, bringing a seasoned balance of rock-and-roll muscle and sharp lyrical reflection.
