Early last week, Boston singer-songwriter Matt Charette showed up at his barbershop to find it underwater. Literally. An upstairs neighbor didn’t take proper cold weather precautions, a pipe burst, and water came pouring down into the shop. The damage was devastating.
But Charette’s doing what DIY musicians do—skip the pity party, roll up the sleeves, and get to work. He’s gutting and rebuilding, and the community’s already got his back. A GoFundMe is live and growing.
And when a gut punch like that comes, many musicians process it the only way they know how—through music. So naturally, there’s a benefit show this Thursday at O’Brien’s in Boston. Twangville can’t make it, but if you’re anywhere near Boston, you should.
In the meantime, here’s a taste of what makes Charette’s music so special: an acoustic version of “Lessons Learned” from 2016, and “4×4” off 2023’s Lo-Fi High Hopes.
