One of my favorite albums of last year was John Francis O’Mara’s Forbidden Hymns. It’s a plea for humanity to dig deep into their soul and find the empathy and kindness that’s been mocked as a weakness by many in power today. Set to a soundtrack of outlaw country hymns and Southern rock R&B ballads, you can immerse yourself in the lyrics or just sit back and enjoy the groove. It features an A-list of supporting musicians, including Kenny Vaughn and Chris Scruggs. The record is pure gospel, not in the organized religion style, but in the spirit of helping your fellow humans.

Most of the songs on the album take some inspiration from recent events in the public eye. One of them, however, is much more inwardly focused. Jesus Walked On Water is an admission of self-doubt and desire to do better. It’s a very personal, acoustic ballad asking those who’ve supported O’Mara, “do you still believe in me?” The angst evident in the question is balanced in the end with a resolve that he would die for them, if that’s what it comes to. We’re honored to present the premiere of the new video for that song. Here is Jesus Walked On Water.
