Let’s close out Twangville’s coverage of this year’s AmericanaFest, the Americana Music Association’s annual gathering in Nashville, with one of the week’s highlights. Rock legend John Fogerty took to the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, an institution unto itself, to close out the annual Americana Honors and Awards program. And he didn’t do it alone.
Fogerty kicked off his three song set, backed by his sons on guitar and the outstanding awards show house band, with “Up Around the Bend” and “Lookin’ Out My Back Door”. The stage then flooded with many of the artists who spoke or performed over the course of the evening: Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Rhett Miller, Emmylou Harris, Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, Chuck Prophet, John C. Reilly, Darrell Scott, Gillian Welch, and more. “Is everybody here? I guess we’re good,” said Fogerty as the band launched into “Proud Mary”.
