Big Love Car Wash Premiere – 21st Century Telegraph

Thursday, May 08, 2025 By Shawn Underwood

I guess you could call Austin musicians Taylor Turner and Everett Wren serial band members. Taylor has been in more bands than he can remember; 15 during his college years alone. In addition to his solo projects, Wren has played with the Arkansas Youth Orchestra and formed groups Wagon, Lost & Nameless, and Chalkboard Poets. After a call from fellow musician Sol Chase to work a bluegrass gig with David Rabinowicz and him, the event so energized the 4 of them they started Big Love Car Wash. The name is a nod to the late, great Jeff Austin, who noted the energy from an audience really into the music was like “a big love car wash”. That eventful show gave them the same feeling. They’ve been playing together ever since and are about to release their debut album, Daydream.

Overall the album weaves its way across a myriad of acoustic music styles. Janna (She’s Still At Sea) has a little bit of Celtic sea chanty sound, while The Colorado Waltz leans more into traditional Eastern European folk. Subtleties touches almost a pop note, and I Won’t Write Murder Ballads is all Appalachian bluegrass. One of my favorites on the record is 21st Century Telegraph. It showcases Rabinowicz’s understated piano and Taylor’s flowing bass line in a ballad about changing times. Chase, the author, notes the song’s subjects are “two people living in two different centuries”, and struggling to relate to each other, like the humor one of them finds in the other writing down a phone number on a piece of paper. We’re so happy to premiere 21st Century Telegraph here, and build your excitement for Daydream, coming out next month.
