A recent personnel change didn’t slow New England’s GA-20‘s bluesy stride. Singer-guitarist Cody Nilsen joined the group, teaming up with powerhouse drummer Joshua Kiggans and group co-founder guitarist Matthew Stubbs. Still no bass player to be found, but it doesn’t matter – the group’s musical interplay gives their songs a rhythmic swagger.
“I Love You, I Need You”, which you can preview below, is the second single from the forthcoming EP Volume 2. The gritty love ballad was originally recorded by Lazy Lester back in 1959
Says Stubbs about the track:
“I Love You, I Need You is the second release from our upcoming EP Volume 2. We are big Lazy Lester fans, and I feel like GA-20 can pay homage with our own approach and sound. A vocal melody with really simple but direct, heartfelt lyrics, and this kind of soul-wrenching guitar tone – it’s very appealing to us as performers to be able to access and then interpret this sort of deep but absolutely relatable emotional experience. It’s universal. And Cody does a great job making the longing and loss sound beautiful. My job is to make my guitar sound as expressive as if it were telling the story alone.
Adds Nilsen:
Having the country background that I do, Lester really resonates with me, and this song especially. That country influence is definitely in there. More than that, with LL I’m constantly reminded of the power of melody.
Twangville is honored to premiere “I Love You, I Need You” from GA-20’s EP Volume 2, scheduled for release on 25 April.
