Monday Morning Video – Sam & Dave

Monday, January 13, 2025 By Mayer Danzig

When I think back to the pivotal artists that cemented my lifelong love of music, Sam & Dave rank high on the list.  I stumbled across the Atlantic Records R&B Anthology and was immediately drawn to Sam and Dave’s magic.  The energy, the songs, the voices – they were all something special.

Sam Moore passed away last week at the age of 89, taking with him a quintessential voice in the history of rock and roll, one that been revered and inspirational by countless artists that followed him.

Here are two videos that capture Moore’s magic.  First is a vintage Sam & Dave performance of the duo’s classic ballad “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby” in 1967.  Second is Moore joining Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band two of Sam & Dave’s legendary hits:  “Hold On I’m Coming” and “Soul Man”.  The smiles plastered across the faces of Bruce and the E Street Band’s say it all.
