Memphis’ Lucero personify fortitude and commitment to craft. For more than two decades, the group has delivered a steady mix of boisterous rock songs and heartbreaking ballads, much to the delight of fans who turn their live shows into high octane sing-along affairs.
At the core, however, are the songs. And what better way to celebrate those songs than to strip them down to the core. Which is exactly what singer-songwriter Ben Nichols and pianist Rick Steff do on the forthcoming Lucero Unplugged, scheduled for release on 24 January. The two selected twenty songs from the band’s extensive catalog and recorded them live in a single day in producer Matt Ross-Spang’s Memphis studio.
Here’s a taste of Lucero Unplugged: Nichols and Steff performing the band’s classic “That Much Further West”.
