Summer has nearly come to an end and I can’t think of a better way to acknowledge it than with a song by one of the masters. Here are two versions of John Prine’s “Summer’s End”, from 2018’s The Tree of Forgiveness, to close out the season. First is a solo acoustic performance, shot backstage in 2019. It’s followed by a full band performance with special guest Brandi Carlile and Sturgill Simpson.
The moon and stars hang out in bars just talkin’
I still love that picture of us walkin’
Just like that old house we thought was haunted
Summer’s end came faster than we wanted
