I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Delaney Hafener, the mastermind behind The Belle Curves, around New York City a few times over the past year. Each time I’ve been impressed by her ability to blend wondrous power pop with a rocking edge. It’s a sound that is lively and refreshing.
Well, it’s finally time for her to share some new music. “Hand-Rolled” is the lead single for Subject to Change, a new album planned for a fall release. That’s not one, but rather two reasons to celebrate. Hafener’s songs overflow with melody and charm, recalling Aimee Mann in the best possible way. And as you’ll hear below, they’re damn catchy.
Says Hafener about the song:
I think I wrote my current life mission statement in writing “Hand-Rolled”. I wanted to explore the elimination of unnecessary shame that our puritanical culture puts on us, especially women and queer people. It’s about honesty, maturing, self-love, good old-fashioned flirting, mindful debauchery. It’s about reclaiming control over our own lives, while letting go of trying to control what’s out of our hands.
Twangville is honored to premiere “Hand-Rolled”, the new single from The Belle Curves forthcoming album Subject to Change.
