We at Twangville are thrilled to be premiering the lyric video for Alabama based Southern Rockers, Them Dirty Roses, latest single “Birmingham Steel”. The video highlights the history of the steel industry in Birmingham and the North Central part of the state where the band grew up. I must admit I share some of their same pride given that the band and I share the same hometown of Gadsden, Alabama. In addition, my grandfather and countless family and friends made their careers in the local steel plant in Gadsden. The history of steelmaking in Alabama began near the turn of the 20th when it was discovered that the land surrounding Birmingham was rich in deposits of coal, iron ore and limestone — all the ingredients necessary for pig iron.
It is this history that provides the metaphor for the solid, sturdy relationship that is the centerpiece of the song. “Birmingham Steel” was co-written by all four band members and collaborators Phillip White and James LeBlanc. It was recorded at the iconic and legendary FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Specifically about the lyric video, one of the founding brothers said the following: “We are really happy with how the ‘Birmingham Steel’ lyric video turned out. It’s more than just words on a screen. It’s a visual journey that really captures the soul of the song, and paints a picture of the landscape and people we grew up with. We wanted our fans to feel the power and emotion behind the song, and we think this video accomplishes that.” Indeed it does. However, today we are hear for the music. Enjoy the video:
