LA singer-songwriter Hannah Connolly is marching towards the release of her sophomore album next year. Along the way she is releasing several singles, including the wondrous “Stuck in Place”, for which Twangville is honored to premiere a live performance video.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to learn that she recorded the song – and this video – in Idyllwild, California. There’s a breeziness to the song and this performance that reflects that, well, idyllic location.
The song itself is a tasty pop confection that flows with an infectious optimism. Connolly sings about being comfortable with life’s ebbs and flows, even savoring the moments when things seem stagnant. “But it’s alright, it’s ok, we’ll sort it out as it goes ‘til the pieces fit,” she declares, “It’s a good time stuck in place and letting go of the show, let it be what it is.”
Says Connolly about the song and video:
Stuck in Place is about learning to take things as they come and live in the moment.
There’s so much pressure sometimes to see life very linearly, as if we should always be moving forward or progressing in some way in our work, art and relationships. This song pushes back on that idea and is about appreciating where you are at the time without always worrying about what comes next.
We filmed the video live in Idyllwild, California at The Music Box Studios where we recorded the album. It was filmed on the same weekend as several other videos, and we had a ton of fun just rolling through the songs and getting a chance to enjoy playing them live together in a room.
It was filmed and edited by Ryan Neal Cordwell, with audio by Jon O’Brien who owns the studio and co-produced the album with Eric Cannata. I was joined by Ben Greenberg on Guitar and Jordan Ruiz on pedal steel, both of which also contributed to the album recording. We had friends Dave Pelusi on Bass, Ronan Delisle on guitar and Levi Matulis on drums.
