There’s something special when independent artists collaborate. I’m not talking about two songwriters sitting in a room to write a song together but rather when they weave their talents together to create a cohesive and collaborative piece of work. The results can be magical.
Such is the story of Garrison Starr and Sean McConnell – aka My Sister, My Brother. The two met at a songwriting retreat several years ago and, if the songs that they have written are any indication, were destined to create a true musical partnership.
Case in point, the stunning “Cry Me A River” from the forthcoming My Sister, My Brother II. The ballad, ushered along by piano and majestic strings, is uplifting and beautiful. The two singers harmonize exquisitely as they counsel someone during a time of need:
I want you to cry
I want you to cry and cry until you’re a river
A river that runs itself dry
I want you to scream
I want you to lose your mind until you’re delivered
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
Says Starr about the song and video:
“Cry Me A River” is one of the most special songs I’ve ever been a part of. Songs like this are proof of the magic and mystery of music and the importance of staying as open as possible for the muse to find us. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time with my heart in the right space. I am so grateful. The video to me reflects the sparseness of the production of the song itself. Lots of space. Field and sky. Loneliness. Maybe hopelessness. And then sudden bursts of light and wind like a reminder of some sort of peace breaking through for a moment. Pulling you like the lyric. We hope you enjoy it!
