Ben Balmer plays with a lot of folks around the Austin area and last fall he released an album, Honky Tonk Macbeth, that featured many of them. He has a new record coming out soon under the moniker of Ben Balmer & Friends, so we can assume that it will likewise feature a number of those musician buddies.
The second single, however, wasn’t written by Balmer or any of his friends, but rather by the legendary Irving Berlin. Berlin’s material isn’t covered very often in Americana circles. Ben’s grandfather, though, was a huge fan of both Berlin’s songs and poetry and was always delighted when Balmer sang one of those classic crooner numbers. So if you’ve always wondered what Frank Sinatra would sound like accompanied by fiddle and a country music rhythm section (and why wouldn’t you wonder about that), here’s Ben Balmer with I’ve Got You Under My Skin.
