Monday Morning Video – X on the Fourth of July

Monday, July 04, 2022 By Mayer Danzig

It’s not often, in fact pretty rare, that I get to share one of my favorite songs on the day that it’s supposed to be heard. So I’m going to jump at the chance to share one of my all-time favorite songs – Dave Alvin’s “Fourth of July”. While my introduction to the song was X’s raucous cover, represented here by their performance at Farm Aid in 1986, I’m kinda partial to hearing Dave Alvin wrap his voice and guitar around it. All the better when he is joined by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Flaco Jimenez, and Los Cenzontles at a 2017 benefit concert.
