Children’s music sure has come a long way… and it continues to get better. The Roughhousers, formed by formed by TV/film voice-over artist and Grammy winner Grey DeLisle and Million Dollar Quartet leader Eddie Clendening, join the party with Princess Mike, their debut release.
Of course, it can’t really be a party unless you invite some friends. In DeLisle and Clendening’s case, this included: Deke Dickerson (Ecco-Fonics), Carl Sonny Leyland (Big Sandy and The Fly Rite Boys), Murry Hammond (Old 97’s), and DJ Bonebrake (Founding Member of X and The Knitters). With a crew like that, you know you’re in for one heck of a rockabilly throwdown.
And throwdown they do, unleashing a raucous and entertaining collection of ten originals and one choice cover. The group’s latest single is “Big Sister”, penned by DeLisle and sung by Clendening. Says DeLisle about the song:
“Eddie really wanted to do a cover of the Bill Carter Rockabilly classic “Baby Brother” for our record because he and Bill are friends and we both love & respect him so much as a songwriter. I decided that if we were gonna have me singing about a “Baby Brother” we’d have to have Eddie sing about a “Big Sister” so I wrote this in the bathtub the morning of the session and we recorded it a few hours later!”
Twangville is honored to premiere the video for “Big Sister”, a fine homage to big sisters of all ages.
