This year has been off to a great start on the new music front. Adding to the excitement has been the fact that it has been driven in part by the emergence of some great new artists. The latest addition to that list is Cody Nilsen. Nilsen has established himself as a go-to guitarist in New England, recognized with a “session musician of the year” nomination at the 2021 Boston Music Awards, not to mention touring and recording as a member of Ward Hayden and the Outliers.
Yet Nilsen also has some songs of his own that he’d like to share – and is gearing up to release his debut solo album. Not surprisingly it’s filled with raucous guitar, starting with the lead single “Living Is Killing Me”. The song opens with a catchy and inviting guitar riff and builds towards and anthemic closing chant of “You keep on feeding me the same old bullshit, you keep on bringing me down”. Trust me, you’ll be singing along. Loudly.
Says Nilsen about the song:
“Living is Killing Me” is a song I wrote for anyone who has felt fed up. Anyone who is tired. Anyone who has lived any version of life. My goal with this song was to give everyone a song to sing who needs it when things get tough. Something to hum to take the edge off.
Filmed in Providence, Rhode Island by Nick Surette, the goal with the video of “Living is Killing Me” was to capture the moments when life isn’t so hard and provide some positive contrast to accompany the song. “Living is Killing Me” is about the one thing we all share, that every single of us has in common with each other.”
Twangville is honored to premiere the video for “Living Is Killing Me”, the first single from Cody Nilsen’s forthcoming debut album. Stream/save the track here.
