Keepsake House, producers of the “From Story to Song” show that I wrote about earlier this year, are back with an even more ambitious undertaking: they’ve partnered with Nashville musician Alex Wong to host the month-long “Show Yourself: A Benefit Residency Celebrating AAPI Stories”.
The series. emcompassing five shows, kicked off last Monday with Wong, Tonie, and MILCK sharing the stage for a moving performance. The highlights came one after another. Just two examples: Tonie reflecting on their personal connection to MILCK’s song “Quiet” and Wong talking about – and then playing – his song that lends its name to the residency.
The shows continue throughout May – Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month – at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City. Not in NYC? The shows are being live streamed so all can share in the experience. Visit the Keepsake House events page for live stream and in-person ticket information as well as artist bios.
You can learn more about how the residency came to be in this interview between Wong and Keepsake House’s Jasmine Jang. Proceeds from the residency benefit multiple organizations via the Quiet Voice Fund.
Keepsake House was kind enough to share two rough cut videos from the 2 May performance so that Twangville can share them with you.
