Ben Balmer Song Premiere – Girl With the Dirty Hair

Thursday, March 17, 2022 By Shawn Underwood

Last fall I wrote about Ben Balmer’s latest record, Honky-Tonk Macbeth. There were a couple of very good, but dark, numbers including the title track. It has the best summary of the Shakespeare classic that I’ve ever heard, “just words that sound pretty, then there’s mostly death.” Most of the album, however, was more in the honky-tonk vein with Balmer and his band showing they know how to get people out onto the dance floor.

He’s finishing up a new album now, and the first song to be released continues in that rollicking style. It’s a snapshot of an evening on the Texas coast and you can practically hear the pool balls cracking and catch a whiff of danger in the air. The song is called Girl With the Dirty Hair and we’re so pleased to premiere it here on Twangville.

About the author:  I've actually driven from Tehatchapee to Tonopah. And I've seen Dallas from a DC-9 at night.
