I’ve never attended the Outlaw Country Cruise but I’ve no doubt it’s an amazing experience. The line-up is always filled with an incredible array of artists – a who’s who of Twangville faves. Among those appearing this year is Brooklyn-based Mary Lee’s Corvette.
Mary Lee Kortes is apparently so excited about the cruise that she recorded and released a song to mark the occasion. “The Sound of the Sea” has an intoxicating Velvet Underground feel combined with a lilting vibe that conjures up, well, images of the ocean.
Says Cortes about the song:
The song is one of those “it-woke-me-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-asking-to-be-written” songs. I have a voicemail from about 4:00 AM one winter eve with me singing the melody and words to the opening chorus, complete with very musical yawns sprinkled throughout. I have no clear idea what inspired the song itself. I like those kinds of songs—the ones that come out of nowhere for no reason except to be heard.
Twangville is honored to premiere “The Sound of the Sea”, the latest from Mary Lee’s Corvette. And we wish Mary Lee and all who are sea-bound a wonderful cruise. We wish we were joining you!
