CJ Garton was raised a 6th generation Oklahoma red dirt cowboy. Although he makes his living as a singer-songwriter these days, his roots run deep. On a little bit of a whim, he and his son rode their horses from Nashville back to the Oklahoma homestead in 2019. That trip became the inspiration for a record released last year, Tales Of the Ole West & Other Libations To Please the Palate.
The album is full of traditional country songs featuring Garton’s well-worn, rich-leather, baritone. They range from an irony-laced country shuffle called Bitch At the Bottom, to Halos, a tribute to some of Garton’s country music heroes. The one non-original song is a great cover of Johnny Cash’s [There Ain’t No Good] Chain Gang.
One of the great originals on the album is a tale of mishandled relationships, entitled I Went Crazy. We’re pleased to offer you the premiere of that video here on Twangville. And in the best storyteller tradition, Garton ends with a plot line teaser.
