Generations of kids, me included, grew up with The Monkees. Although the show only ran for two seasons in the mid-1960’s, it’s reruns endure to this day. Michael Nesmith and his wool cap were an anchor for the show, both as an actor and a musician. Nesmith passed away on Friday, shortly after completing a tour with remaining band member Micky Dolenz.
While arguably most associated with The Monkees, Nesmith had an incredible career beyond the show. In addition to a notable solo career, he pioneered the concept of music videos and produced movies such as the cult classics “Repo Man” and “Tapeheads”.
Here is one of my favorites by The Monkees, the Nesmith-penned “You Just May Be The One”. In addition, I’ve included Nesmith’s version of “Different Drum”, a song notably associated with Linda Ronstadt, who recorded it in 1967 with the Stone Poneys.
