We lost a legend last week with the passing of Lloyd Price. The Louisiana native was a rock and roll pioneer, writing and recording storied classics like “Stagger Lee”, “Lawdy Miss Clawdy”, and “Personality” (the song that inspired his nickname “Mr. Personality”).
We had the chance to interview Price several years ago and it remains one of our favorites. In response to what he had learned later in his career that he wished he knew earlier, he responded “Accounting – in business you must know how to count.”
Here are two classic Price performances. First, he and Little Richard duet on “Lawdy Miss Clawdy”. Then he celebrates his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a rousing version of “Stagger Lee”, accompanied by fellow Hall of Famers John Fogerty, Johnnie Johnson, and Allen Toussaint.
