Our friends at State Fair Records are gearing up for a great Friday celebration. Yesterday we premiered the latest single from John Pedigo’s Magic Pilsner and today we are back to premiere the new single from Chris J. Norwood. Both tracks will be released tomorrow on, you guessed it, State Fair Records.Â
Although we recently heard from Norwood via a cover of the Old 97’s “Niteclubâ€, this is his first new solo music since 2017’s outstanding Longshot. It’s a welcome return. “The Final Girl†is an insistent rocker chock full of slashing guitars and a rousing chorus. It’s a fine taste of what’s to come when he releases his next full length album in 2021.  Â
The accompanying video – part “Psycho” and part “Groundhog Day” – is perfect for the Halloween season. Norwood explains:
The song is a play on the old horror movie tropes of final girls (think Lorie Strode in the Halloween movies, or Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise). With the music video we wanted to flip the script a little bit with the final girl serving a different, more sinister role. The video was shot in the Lakewood Theater (now Bowlski’s), and is significant to me as there is history with this theater and my family. The night before the shoot, the power went out in the whole neighborhood. The next morning it had been restored everywhere except the block that the theater was on. We decided to go ahead with the shoot, even though there was no power, and the whole video was shot and lighted using a generator and battery powered lights. Miraculously, the power was restored and the lights came back on the moment the director called cut on the last scene. Honestly, this adds to the video and its atmosphere – it’s perfect!Â
