For every artist who has found critical and commercial success, there are countless others of immense talent who sit just under the radar. Count Pinto Bennett among them. The Idaho native has been plying the songwriting trade for decades, including a stint in Nashville where he was befriended by the likes of Chet Atkins, Lyle Lovett, and Don Everly.
Despite a series of health issues, Bennett hit the studio with with members of Eilen Jewell’s band (anchored by Jewell drummer and album producer Jason Beek) and emerged in 2019 with The Last Saturday Night. If you’re looking for some down-home and stellar country music, Bennett delivers the goods with “I Like Singin’ the Blues in a Honky-Tonk Song”.
And if you don’t take my word for it, listen to Eilen Jewell and Reckless Kelly serving up the Bennett classic “You Cared Enough to Lie”.
