Monday Morning Video – David Olney

Monday, January 20, 2020 By Mayer Danzig

I wish that I could tell you that I was well-versed in David Olney’s music. I’m certainly familiar with him, both via his songwriting reputation and his relentless touring and festival appearances.

Olney passed away this weekend while performing at the 30A Music Festival. The outpouring of memories from the Americana community has been heart-wrenching. The stories of inspiration and chance encounters has spoken volumes about the beauty and impact of Olney’s writing. More than one artist has shared this quote for the legendary Townes Van Zandt: Any time anyone asks me who my favorite music writers are… I say Mozart, Lightnin Hopkins, Bob Dylan and Dave Olney.

This video seems especially appropriate given Olney’s passing.
