Monday Morning Video – A Premiere from Melanie Brulee

Monday, July 01, 2019 By Mayer Danzig

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Melanie Brulee took to the road to find inspiration for her latest album.  And not just any road, but the legendary Route 66.

Although song titles like “Oklahoma Rain” and “Pretty Wasteland” suggest a travelogue, it’s more the spirit of the adventure that inhabit the songs that inhabit the songs that ultimately came together as her late 2018 release Fires, Floods & Things We Leave Behind.  There’s plenty of gravel and dust as well as some richly textured Western soundscapes.

“I’ll Get Over You” is more of the dusty variety, the kind of song that makes you think about cruising down the highway in a convertible with the top down (and the radio blaring, of course). As feisty guitars usher the song along, Brulee reminisces about a failed relationship as she firmly looks to leave it behind.  “I remember that look in your eye and warm summer nights with you,” she sings before definitively adding “I’ll get over you.”

Twangville is pleased to premiere a special studio performance video of “I’ll Get Over You”.
