Monday Morning Video – Roky Erickson

Monday, June 03, 2019 By Mayer Danzig

It’s been a tough week in the music world with the passing of three notable artists. Shawn wrote about the loss of idiosyncratic old-timey artist Leon Redbone. We also lost harmonica player and rock historian Tony Glover, an influence for Bob Dylan and countless others.

Friday brought news of Roky Erickson’s death at the age of 71. Erickson’s demons were real and they came to life in his songs, creating a brand of psychedelic rock that inspired many who followed.

Here’s a vintage performance of a favorite Erickson song, “If You Have Ghosts” from 1981’s The Evil One.
