Sometimes it is about how/where you were raised.  After time on the rodeo circuit and then a stint in the Texas oilfields, Josh Ward decided to pursue his passion, albeit in a slightly safer profession as a country music singer.  When he sings about perseverance in A Cowboy Can, it’s coming from deep in the heart.  One More Shot Of Whisky confesses that “I’ve tried Jones, and I’ve tried Haggard” as alternatives to brown liquor for building up a good case of sorrow.
My favorites are probably the two faster tempo songs on the record.  Another Heartache is a two-steppers’ perfect accompaniment for a turn around the dance floor.  Home Away From Home is a honky-tonk number about a honky-tonk.  And it’s not really clear about which one is the home and which is the other.
Several of the songs on the album lean toward pop country, but what holds them all together is Ward’s vocals.  You can just imagine Blake Shelton picking him for his team.  So if you’re up for some real country music with a little zing, check out More Than I Deserve.
