Americana 2017: Say What?!

Tuesday, October 03, 2017 By Mayer Danzig

One of my favorite things about attending music conferences and festivals are the crazy comments that you hear along the way. Here are a few choice selections from this year’s Americana Festival.

He chooses the sing the high third part harmony and to give us the moment of our lives.

I thought it was just a little lazy. If you’re getting an achievement award for your life’s work, you should do some fucking work.

He’s right THERE.

The Milk Carton Kids discussing their performance of an Everly Brothers’ cover with Graham Nash at the awards show earlier in the week. Nash was listening nearby.

They said you and Todd tore up the Belcourt Theater, stole 3000 dollars, puked in the trash can, and left.

We did NOT puke in the trash can. Let’s get that shit straightened out right now.

Elizabeth Cook

I’m not that angry. Really. You all look frightened. Kasey Chambers after an intense version of “I Ain’t No Little Girl”

I’m relatively fucked from last night.  Metaphorically speaking.  Shane Nicholson, after a late night spent signing karaoke

You gotta like a gig where you only play two songs. There’s only one thing better. Colin Hay

Those Tennessee allergies are just the fucking worst.  Elizabeth Cook when someone sneezed loudly during her set

I get to steal your music and sell it back to you.  Australia’s Kasey Chambers on her career playing Americana music

There’s a lot of cool shit going on this week. That’s apparently where everyone else went.  Zach Schmidt to a thinning late Tuesday night crowd

That’s what I have to show for 10,000 hours of listening to Duane Allman.  Jesse Dayton after a screaming slide guitar solo

In the end, a lot of people just drink beer to it. Colin Hay after describing the social meaning of “Down Under”

Enjoy our Aussie BBQ that we bought at Kroger.  When in Nashville…

I’d like to welcome Sheryl Crow to the stage. But she’s not here. Will Hoge introducing “Little Bit of Rust”, the studio version of which features Ms. Crow

You can sing it instead of fucking talkin’.  Colin Hay trying to introduce a sing-along to a talkative crowd
