I don’t have any kids of my own but, from what I’ve heard from those that do, there’s a certain irony to the title of Matthew Logan Vasquez’s new album entitled Does What He Wants. The idea that a new-ish parent, rock musician or not, can do what he or she wants when there is a young child at home is apparently laughable.
The latest video from said album, the songwriter’s ode to “Fatherhood,” drives the point home. Vasquez gathered some of his own home footage, along with that of lots of musical friends, to celebrate the joys and occasional mishaps of being a father (see the 2:42 mark in particular). While the group may live a rock and roll lifestyle on the road, the video documents a far different experience at home.
It’s only appropriate that we premiere this video to kick off Father’s Day weekend. Happy Father’s Day to the Dad’s in my family – my father and brother – as well as all the Dads among us.
