Monday Morning Video – The Suitcase Junket

Monday, May 15, 2017 By Mayer Danzig

Matt Lorenz, aka The Suitcase Junket, is one of the most distinctive singer-songwriters you’ll come across these days. A one-man band in the dumpster-diving tradition (his guitar was rescued from a dumpster; his kick-drum features his own re-purposed baby shoe), his songs veer from the beautiful ballads to battered blues. Layered on top are tasteful moments of throat-singing, a technique that Lorenz taught himself in his car.

The centerpiece, however, are his magical songs. His songwriting, whether rough or tender, are built around captivating melodies that result in either foot-stomping glories or glorious sing-alongs.

Pile Driver, his latest album, was released last month and is worthy of your attention. Below are two tracks from the album, plus a surprise cover.

About the author:  Mild-mannered corporate executive by day, excitable Twangville denizen by night.
