Forget the groundhog, the surest sign of spring is the arrival of a new baseball season. Sure, you may be tempted to say Spring Training is the milestone moment, but the weather will often step in to say otherwise. (Heck, there’s a reason Spring Training takes place in Florida and Arizona.)
Many of you will undoubtedly agree with me that everything sounds better with music, baseball included. Fortunately, baseball has got us covered with a soundtrack that typically includes both live and pre-recorded music. My favorite ballfield – Fenway Park – is blessed with a particularly fine soundtrack, often courtesy of organist Josh Kantor. As the video below attests, Kantor’s playlist stretches far beyond the typical fare, taking requests and, in conjunction with Fenway Park DJ TJ Connelly, hosts musical theme nights.
We’re going to take this post into extra innings with a bonus video courtesy of Mike June. “The Baseball Song” captures the youthful exhuberance of the game with more than a few, um, inside baseball references for the sport’s faithful. The song is so good, I’ll even forgive June for his professed team allegiance. We’ll see who ends up in first place come fall but, either way, we’ll enjoy a season of baseball… and music.
