Monday Morning Video – Son Volt “Windfall”

Monday, March 06, 2017 By Mayer Danzig

Jay Farrar and Son Volt are kicking off an extended national tour in support of Notes of Blue, their impressive new album. Inspired by, but not anchored by, the blues, it is a welcome return to a more rocking sound. The album showcases Farrar’s ability to tell vivid stories while simultaneously painting rich Americana landscapes, both musically and lyrically.

I caught night two of the tour and it was a typical limited talking, plenty of rocking Son Volt affair. Alongside the new tunes, the band reached back to the early years for this pair of legendary songs. “May the wind take your troubles away,” is a fine sentiment with which to start the week.
