Monday Morning Video – The 1967 Stax Volt Soul Revue!

Monday, March 09, 2015 By Mayer Danzig

Need a powerful pick-me-up for a Monday morning? It won’t get much better than this classic set of performances from 1967. Booker T. & the MGs, Sam and Dave and a host of stars from the legendary Stax label. And did I mention Otis Redding? It doesn’t get much better than this.

Performances include: Booker T & The MGs (Green Onions and Red Beans And Rice), Arthur Conley (Sweet Soul Music and In The Midnight Hour), Sam and Dave (Hold On and I’m Coming), Eddie Floyd (Raise Your Hand), the Mar-Keys (Philly Dog and Last Night) and a barnstorming, five-song set by Otis Redding that includes Try A Little Tenderness, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, My Girl and Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song).

For those who can’t get enough of the classic Stax sound, the revived label (acquired by Concord Records back in 2004) has been compiling box sets of all the label’s singles. The most recent collection, with tracks from 1972-1975, was recently released.
