Monday Morning Video: Chris Mills

Monday, January 20, 2014 By Mayer Danzig

Brooklyn (by way of Chicago) singer-songwriter Chris Mills passed through Boston yesterday. It had been awhile since I’d seen him but it took only one song to remind me why I enjoy his songwriting.

Mid-set he pulled out this older tune that has long been a favorite. Yes, it’s a bit maudlin. but damn if the elegant chorus doesn’t hit the mark.

I have changed the locks on my heart since you were here
And now that key you’ve got will only unlock a box of tears
But I wish I’d saved a copy for myself because now there are places in my heart I will never go again

Alexandria, the first album of new music from Mills in five years, is out tomorrow.
