Hear It First – Susan Cattaneo’s “Lies Between Lovers”

After several years of writing songs to be sung by others, Susan Cattaneo decided to write for herself. The result is an album that has a classic feel, filled with songs that sound like timeless standards yet are infused with a contemporary freshness. From the heart-wrenching â€œDone Betterâ€ to the country swagger of â€œWorth the Whiskey,â€ it is a collection that is instantly memorable and immensely satisfying.

Twangville is proud to premiere one of our favorite tracks from the album, the the pop-laced Americana song “Lies Between Lovers.”

Says Cattaneo about the song:

“Lies Between Lovers” is a song about the decay of a marriage and the repercussions of that break-up on the children in the family. My parents separated when I was 11, and itâ€™s still surprises me how that one event in my life colors my perspective on the world. As a songwriter, I love playing with alternate meanings of words. For this song, I wrote the front half of the chorus so that it refers to â€œliesâ€ meaning the things that a couple says that arenâ€™t true. Then in the back half of the chorus, that meaning is reinterpreted to mean what physically lies between the two lovers in the song – in this case, the children.

Haunted Heart will be released on 21 January 2014.
