Stephen Kellogg’s Song of Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 28, 2013 By Mayer Danzig

I’m sure many are familiar with “Alice’s Restaurant,” Arlo Guthrie’s legendary Thanksgiving opus. Clocking in at nearly twenty minutes, it is a touchstone in the folk story-telling canon.

Well, it is time to start a new tradition. Stephen Kellogg’s “Thanksgiving,” from his recent Blunderstone Rookery, is an uplifting reflection on life and its blessings. Acknowledging that life is not all wine and roses, Kellogg encourages all to define their own happiness. It is a wonderful sentiment, and one that brings special meaning to the holiday.

Kellogg recently travelled to Brooklyn, NY to produce a moving video for the song. He was joined by the Peace Industry Music Choir (and a couple of his daughters) for the session.
