Monday Morning Video: Peter Wolf and Session Americana

Monday, March 07, 2011 By Mayer Danzig

“Now we’re gonna just kinda roll with it,” said Peter Wolf as he joined extraordinary Boston musicians Session Americana for a surprise set last week. Imagine Wolf playing a house party in your living room, sitting around a table with a group of extremely talented and relaxed musicians, and you’ll get a sense of this performance.

The set was mostly chestnuts from Wolf’s solo catalogue, plus some choice covers and a bluegrass version of “Love Stinks.” The entire set was loose and carefree, a celebratory environment complimented by the bottle of champagne that Wolf brought for the band. In fact, champagne figured into one of the night’s most entertaining moments, which you can see captured in one of the videos below.

So without further ado, here are three great moments from a spectacular set. The group performing Wolf’s “Nothin’ But the Wheel” and “When Women Are Lonely” and two-fer of Merle Haggard classics, “Big City” and “It’s Too Late for Me.”
