It must be John Prine‘s year. I recently claimed ‘John Prine: On Stage & In Person’ to be the best live album of the year and now I’m telling you that ‘Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine’ is the best compilation album of the year. Just look at the artists who contributed to this album to see what kind of respect Prine has garnered. My Morning Jacket, Josh Ritter, Justin Townes Earle, The Avett Brothers, and Drive-by Truckers are among the included on ‘Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows’. Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band created a personal favorite with “Wedding Day in Funeralville”. For the uninitiated this is a great place to start. My only suggestion is that once you start, don’t stop. John Prine is the real deal.
