I’m bending the rules a little by claiming that The Black Crowes, ‘Croweology’ double album is the best “greatest hits” record of the year. In fact, there was only one true “greatest hits” album that I listened to this whole year so nearly all of the four in my list stay true to adhere to this rule. As for ‘Croweology’, not only does it serve to catalog the best songs over 20 years but they kicked it up a notch with newly arranged acoustic versions of the best of their best followed by a tour. Of the albums that I listened to that remotely fit in this category, ‘Croweology’ wins by far. The final product is absolutely glorious. Producer Paul Stacey deserves a Grammy for helping to put this together. “Thorn On My Pride” never sounded so good. The band will be wrapping up 2010 with a stretch of shows at The Fillmore in San Franscisco. With recordings like this mean there will undoubtedly be more big hits to come.
