So here it is halfway through 2010 and I’m in (mostly) a rock and roll mood. Here’s what has been blasting my speakers of late:
The Hold Steady/Heaven is Whenever: The band just keeps getting better with each release still kickin’ out the positive jams with more conviction and enthusiasm as ever. And there are still some great one liners mixed in as well.
The Black Keys/Brothers: Hardcore fans may disagree, but I think this is the best record from the band. Everlasting Light and Sinister Kid are two reasons why.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Beat the Devil’s Tattoo: BRMC brings another great release to the table. My favorite track of late from this one has been The Toll, a beautiful slow burner that has plenty of bottom end to rattle your windows.
Cary Ann Hearst/Are You Ready to Die: The Butch Walker produced EP shows the strength of Hearst’s vocals and knack for writing a ditty that sticks in your head like that peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth.
Butch Walker/I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart: Speaking of Walker…its classic Butch. He’s currently on tour with Pink.
Damien Jurardo/Saint Bartlett: Jurardo keeps releasing haunting tales of lost love and suspicion in middle America. Saint Bartlett is no different.
I’m sure I’m leaving out some stuff but these are the ones that seem to stick out the most. I mean, I have also been on Joe Pug, DBT kicks, and after seeing Sam Baker last night I’m sure he’ll be getting a lot of spins as well.
