This is the first release from Caleb Caudle featuring the Bayonets.  This is evident right from track one.  Whereas Caudle’s debut Red Bank Road , was a mostly acoustic affair of heartfelt classic Americana, Stay On uses more electric guitars and piano to create an almost R&B sound.  Luckily for the band, Caudle’s voice has that classic blue eyed soul texture.  However, it’s the faster paced rockers that are the standout on the record.  “When the Moment Comes†and “Our Heaven†in particular find the band treading a more catchy rock sound.  Several songs feature the lap steel guitar of former Everybodyfields side woman Megan McCormick, whose fabulous work on Red Bank Road is reprised here.
The Bayonets have created a strong first record that should get them plenty of notice, but something tells me this young band hasn’t reached its peak yet. Â Check them out as they tour the southeast
(South Carolina this weekend!). Â Check out their myspace here http://myspace.com/calebcaudle
